Hey there Workflowy folks,
We’re kicking off our very first template contest!
The way it works is the following:
We’ll present a topic and start accepting submissions.
Your mission should you chose to accept it is to come up with a template around the topic we present. Sometimes the topic will be very specific and other times it will be around a theme.
You’ll then record a simple video walking us through the template, its parts, how it’s used, tips and tricks, etc. A panel of Workflowy experts will review the submissions during the week and announce the winners the following week.
Winners will receive Workflowy fame and glory as their templates and videos are immortalized on an upcoming templates page and shared with the entire Workflowy community via social media and email.
In addition, winners will also receive 6 months of Workflowy pro or credits for 6 months if they already have a pro subscription. These are accumulable so feel free to enter the contest each week.
So once more the way this works is:
1 – We provide a topic.
2 – You create a Workflowy template based on the topic.
3 – You record a simple video explaining how the template works and how it’s used.
4 – You share the template and video with us via the google form at the end of this post.
5 – A panel of Workflowy experts will review the templates + videos and pick the best ones.
6 – We’ll put the winning templates and videos on a template page where they can be enjoyed by the entire Workflowy community.
7 – You’ll bask in Workflowy fame and glory and also receive a 6-month pro subscription or 6 months of credit if you’re already a pro subscriber 😎
So what is the topic for this contest?
Drumroll please 🥁 …
Meeting notes
That’s right. That often ignored part of daily team communication. When done correctly, the notes and tasks that come out of a meeting help propel that team towards their goals. While there are many types of meetings and settings, broadly speaking – most meetings share a general structure. Some topic or topics are introduced and then developed, new information is shared and followup activities are assigned.
However, how often do meetings devolve into something else and by the end when all is said and done, the participants aren’t quite sure what the takeaways were. Lousy meetings – it’s more common than you think!
Your mission is to craft a template that is flexible for different types of meetings and settings, and helps the person using it to feel confident that they are prepared and haven’t missed any important details.

Not being a buzzkill but did you know that Notion pays creators to do this?
When are you going to announce the winners ? 🙂
Hi Chris, very soon!
The new mobile (Android) “Dark” theme sucks, with its gray background instead of pure black with pure white text. The Dark theme is pretty much the main reason I pay for Pro. I’ll ultimately be cancelling Pro if that isn’t swiftly reconsidered.
I’m not looking for harder to read themes: black on white and white on black are both good. I’m not looking for gray 1 on gray 2!
The previous, long-standing Dark theme is good. At least keep it as an option.
And even switching to the Default theme doesn’t help! You’re not using black on white text, the text is some type of dark gray. I haven’t checked the background color, but I assume that’s some kind of light gray.
It’s awful. Why ruin a good thing?
Readability goes way down with this and it looks worse, too. Also, offensive to any of your users with vision problems.
This sounds fantastic! But first, I’m wondering, what is a Workflowy template??
I was wondering the same.
Is there a link to something explaining how to create a Workflowy Template?
Hi Kevin, a template in Workflowy is a layout that you use to help you perform some activity or keep track of some data or both. So a template would be a combination of different sections inside of a Workflowy document plus some labels to help the person know what to do with the different sections.
Here’s a Workflowy document with a couple of different templates to give you an idea of what we mean.

I think you should not set a limit to the submission of templates, i don’t have time now but will submit the awesome templates i have a bit later after the contest, so keep it open, or reopen the contest again, as not everyone can do in timely fashion what is asked here and you might be missing some really nice gold nuggets
Hi Mikulabc, thank you for your suggestion. We plan to make this a regular thing so there will be more contests to enter in the future. The limit could definitely change if more users feel that one week is not enough time but I do think that having a fixed deadline definitely adds some excitement. As we learn more about how our users participate I think we’ll figure out a good way to offer all interested users a way to join in and compete.
I late see this awesome app. I wanna join in that contest. I wanna share GTD, Slip-Box, student tips, business, creative planning, emotion map for reduce negatif emotion , in my comunity and my blog. So , i hope i receive email if new contest launch. Thanks.
