Hey there folks, this week we have a couple of exciting updates to share with you!
Slash command is out in labs✨
That’s right, this week we released the slash command to labs 🎉
We’ve been working on this feature for some time now and are ready to share what we think is a pretty useful feature.
The slash command allows you to use the ‘/’ key on your keyboard to quickly access most of the commands you can perform in Workflowy without taking your hands off the keyboard. There are already a bunch of commands available and more are coming soon as new features are released to labs.
If you’d like to try them out:
- Go to ‘Settings’
- Make sure ‘Workflowy labs’ is toggled on
- Toggle on ‘Slash command’
- Experience the speed and power of slash command

Workflowy user group
If you’re not already part of the Workflowy user group or ‘WUG’ for short – it’s essentially the official slack group where some of the most active members of the community gather to discuss Workflowy (and non-Workflowy) topics.
This group of folks also plays an important role in helping us kick the tires on new features before they go to labs. That means they’re the first to know when a new feature is added.
This week we released a feature to the WUG that’s super useful if you do any sort of long-form writing in Workflowy. ✍️ We don’t usually write about these releases because these features tend to be a little rough around the edges and might take some more tweaking before they’re ready for a labs release.

Here’s a weird one. While using the web app, I see different slash behavior when using laptop’s keyboard than with external keyboard. Laptop’s keyboard pulls up the menu, but external keyboard just makes a slash character! (Macbook Pro, MacOS Ventura)
I find the new to-do feature to be redundant. Which seems to go against workflowy’s principles of minimalism. I can accomplish to-do items by marking them complete. This adds an extra step and doesn’t seem to serve a purpose.
Not a complaint. I don’t mind it. But one of the things that makes workflowy so magical is the restraint in number of features. Sure there are features I would like to have, but overall the whole system works really well. Apps like Legend and Dynalist have more types of items than workflowy, but they introduce honestly just don’t do the job as well.
Anyway. Keep up the good work! Can’t wait for paragraphs and publishing options!
Nice feature ! I am working in IT and I love using worfklowy to manage my private and business projects.
However I am still waiting for possibility to prepare my workflow board based on filters.
Mirrors are first step to do it , like now one can prepare board of few items mirrored from different location/space.
However the most valueable for us users and also for you as company would be ‘filters management’.
I mean the first thing is using it as I said in workflow to generate boards (lets say using filters saved in left bookmark), but ALSO defining filters should be more enhanced – now you cannot for example preapre filter with NOT statement , cannot build some complicated quries.
I think this is BIG step you can do for community.

Probably something that works like “SMART PLAYLIST” on iTunes 🙂 + “live updating”
I could dream/imagine a board with #tagged items, highlights, mentions, etc 🙂

I personally have one big issue (among many small ones) that’s been going on at least since I started using WF almost 2 years ago…
The team is quick to add new features and slow to fix old ones… therefore bugs are scaling up too… #priorities

Hey jbzen300, thanks for the feedback and the bug report.
Bug fixing is something we’re currently working on improving internally. That means giving our team more time to focus exclusively on fixing existing issues after each batch of new features is released.

But I can’t still wrap my head around the fact that the “starred items / bookmarks disappearing on sync” 2+ YEARS issue/bug is not a priority or hard to fix… + I see the bookmark bar “promoted” by workflowy team as an alternative to TABS… but yeah, doesn’t work (at least not offline)

I learned to live without or around these things… I like the app very much… it’s really a notebook with super-powers but those super-powers are “locked” at-the-moment… #superman-with-kryptonite-in-all-of-his-pockets #fix-bugs-don’t-let-them-crawl
I know the team is doing their best, and the app is getting better… but someone has to say these things… don’t mind me #not-a-hater!

Is there a way to search on the “type” specifically the new “to-do” type?
Also are there any plans to print from the Iphone?

Could you explain what you mean by print from the iphone, do you mean literally sending a file to print to a wifi printer?

I have search criteria that produces a view and I would like to print that view from my Iphone. It doesn’t seem possible to print from my Iphone in the workflowy app.

Doesn’t seem to work for me on Windows 11/Workflowy app v22.-6.14.1309. Labs and Slash are enabled in dark mode, rebooted and restarted app, but the only thing that appears when typing a slash is a small popup containing “Duplicate” and no other options. Anything typed after the slash leave up the white popup, after two characters are types the white popup text disappears (but leaves up the white block) and all typing is with white type on a white background.until you click on another line. If I switch to default/light mode, the text is readable and highlighted as you type.
Also, what if you are typing, and you just want to type a ‘slash’ character in your text? Is there a way to escape the slash command?
I had to have a space between my text and the slash mark, then as soon as I typed the slash mark, the list of commands appeared.
However, if I put a space after the slash mark, I expected all the commands to disappear, but three remained. When I put two spaces after the slash mark, just one command option remained. I considered this an annoying bug, but if other users experience it, I’m sure WorkFlowy will do something about it.
All in all, the slash command feature has potential.
As for the headings and paragraphs, I love the idea, but I don’t like how they add additional space above and below that (paragraph) node. I wish the default vertical space was the same as for bullets.

I tried as you suggested. The space (either before or after the slash) doesn’t matter. All I get is a popup with the work ‘Duplicate’ as an option.For what it’s worth, selecting “Duplicate” makes a copy of the current line’s item in a new row.

Updating the app cured the issue, thanks for the tip!
I sugest you make it so that only post-compatible versions of Workflowy show the slash option as available.to avoid the issue.
There could be a header pop-up to remind users to update the app to get the newest features.
