Emoji Madness: Emoji Tags Are Here #✅ #🎉 #🔥

emoji madness

After years of research, development, and testing – we’re pleased to announce that as of today you can now use emojis with tags in Workflowy.

The road to emoji glory was not a simple one to traverse. We had to divert all our engineering efforts and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars – but it’s finally done, and boy was it worth it #😎 .

We would also like to take the opportunity to thank Ksenia (long-time Workflowy user) for basically pushing us to add emoji support within tags. Without her requesting the feature we might never have done it and instead focused on other trivial highly requested features😉 .

What’s this about tags and emojis?

You can now use emojis and some other characters to create tags in Workflowy. So you can do things like

Use just emojis @🐸 , #🎉 , #📞 , #💡, @🤖 , #❤️

Use emojis with text #ignore💅 , #critical🔴 , #email✉️ ,@Patrick🦊

Use other characters within tags like {, \, ~, #, +, –

Use fancy schmancy Unicode characters like ►, ∰, ∑, ‽

And these will work just like all other tags.

This gives you a new and more visually appealing way to signal all kinds of things – letting you personalize Workflowy to make it uniquely yours.

How do I use it?

1. Open Workflowy

2. Start with a hashtag symbol #

3. Emoji all the things 🌴 ⚡️ 🎯 💎 ✍️

How do I type emojis on my computer?

In Windows 10for more details

Accroding to the mindmap inventor, Tony Buzan, plain text makes our brain feel sleepy. So, emoji tag is a great tool.

Do I have to type in the emoji when I want to search for it? Or can I use a related term to the emoji?
Put another way, if I search for “frog” will I find 🐸 & vice versa?

Hundreds and thousands of dollars why? I love emojis but hey. I checked out Notion and after all these years, Workflowy still cannot be beat

Can I use this to get invisible characters in my tags? I wanna copy paste text from WF to other communications with as little editing as possible, and having to remove “-” or “_” from tags is time consuming and in general steals visual “bandwith” from me 😮

What are the emojis for “feature bloat” and “jumped the shark”? I miss the slim earlier Workflowy when text was king (or queen). #truth

I started with hashtag symbol and typed something like critical but I don’t see any emojis..

Love the update! Regarding the pic for this article, Drake has groomed and sexually assaulted girls and young women. It would be very cool if you changed the pic on this article — maybe just for company optics but even cooler would be to do it out of a concern for survivors of sexual harassment who would be shaken to stumble upon a pic of a sexual predator in their search for productivity tools / out of a desire to make Workflowy a welcoming place for them <3

More toys good. Also happy about more colour options.
Wondering if there is any way to have the colours menu appear when you select text with the keyboard please? Eg shift+home.

For now, you’re doomed to copy/paste from the web, I guess.

There is no single ‘Linux’ operating system. ‘Linux’ technically refers to a kernel used by thousands of ‘distributions’ such as Debian GNU/Linux, Fedora, Slackware and Arch. Furthermore, non-Linux Unix operating systems like FreeBSD and MacOS are compatible with Linux at some levels, so an emoji input tool which works on various Linux distributions might also work in FreeBSD or MacOS.

I found the ‘x11-emoji-picker’ tool I posted about above by googling ’emoji input x11′. X11 is the protocol Unix programs have used since 1984 to provide user interface capabilities beyond what you get from a text terminal. Modern Unixes have been replacing the guts of X11 with things like Wayland (Linuxes, BSDs) and Quartz (MacOS), but they maintain compatibility because X11 has been ubiquitous for so long. I used to run X11 apps under coLinux on my Windows 2000 laptop. They communicated with the Windows GUI via X11. I had working sound (also managed by X11) and could even copy-and-paste between X11 and Windows apps.

I have tremendous gratitude and respect for anyone who supports use of their products with Linux and BSD systems. They have to be willing to trust your customers way more than when supporting Windows, MacOS, Android or iOS. I hope my post makes supporting these systems easier for Workflowy.

Some solutions, searching for emoji keyboard linux :
https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/emoji-keyboard-linux/
https://opensource.com/article/19/10/how-type-emoji-linux

Since there is no standard, it’s hard to provide a guide here, I guess.

Is there a way to force use the unicode character or shut off an “emoji” version of a unicode character?
I really loath emojis. I would even like you to bring back the old star in “starred”. I don’t want that color hitting my eyes.

How do I remove the pop up of these blog posts in my workflow?

Merci à WorkFlowy pour l’ajout des emojis qui sont aujourd’hui des repères visuels très pratiques et auxquels nous sommes tous habitués. Cela renforce encore l’efficacité de cet outil très performant qu’est WFY. ✅💚👍

The pop up is annoying, that is why I abandon Remnote..When you start copying others… I do miss the Chrome App, the responsiveness, the ability to search in one huge page then can jump to the word I just searched (I can use this to remember the reading progress!) I miss the good old days that read and remark in Workflowy

I appreciate the feature notifications pop-up at the top of the screen. If there’s ever a “Presentation Mode” that could alleviate the above scenario. 🙂🤙
