After years of research, development, and testing – we’re pleased to announce that as of today you can now use emojis with tags in Workflowy.
The road to emoji glory was not a simple one to traverse. We had to divert all our engineering efforts and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars – but it’s finally done, and boy was it worth it #😎 .
We would also like to take the opportunity to thank Ksenia (long-time Workflowy user) for basically pushing us to add emoji support within tags. Without her requesting the feature we might never have done it and instead focused on other trivial highly requested features😉 .
What’s this about tags and emojis?
You can now use emojis and some other characters to create tags in Workflowy. So you can do things like
Use just emojis @🐸 , #🎉 , #📞 , #💡, @🤖 , #❤️
Use emojis with text #ignore💅 , #critical🔴 , #email✉️ ,@Patrick🦊
Use other characters within tags like {, \, ~, #, +, –
Use fancy schmancy Unicode characters like ►, ∰, ∑, ‽
And these will work just like all other tags.
This gives you a new and more visually appealing way to signal all kinds of things – letting you personalize Workflowy to make it uniquely yours.
How do I use it?
1. Open Workflowy
2. Start with a hashtag symbol #
3. Emoji all the things 🌴 ⚡️ 🎯 💎 ✍️

Should it work for both Windows and Android apps? It doesn’t seem to work for me. When I add an emoticon to a tag, it changes from an active tag to just text and I cannot search for other occurrences by clicking on it. I have Rich Tags turned on in the settings.
