One of the most common tasks you might want to perform when using Workflowy on the go is completing items. While you could first tap on an item, then tap on the “Complete” checkmark, that can be a little annoying. You have to first tap on items one by one and then find the right button to complete them, and if you’re on the go or in the middle of something else, that process can be quite fiddly.
Swiping right 👉
That’s why in our mobile apps you can simply swipe right on any item to complete it, and swipe right once more to un-complete it. So whether you’re out shopping for groceries or going through a project checklist with your team – you can quickly complete items with only one hand.
Swiping left 👈
And for the sake of completeness, if you swipe left on an item, you bring up the bullet menu. From here you can:
- Share the item
- Duplicate the item
- Delete the item
- Open the complete bullet menu
So the next time you’re out and about – remember that you can complete items by simply swiping right or access all of Workflowy’s advanced options by swiping left.
Quite ansious to keep working with workflowy.
I look forward to trying this application
Now I look fwd to learning Workflowy
How can this be disabled? I am accidentally “completing” items. How do you Uncomplete in the mobile app? Highly annoying
Swipe it right again and the item will be uncompleted.
is there a way to swipe to move a bullet ? i don’t know like swipe up to move up in a list. maybe thats too difficult? like what we do with directional keys. instead of having to hold onto the bullet and sometimes it gets dropped while moving
I’m glad I found this, because on my iOS app the checkmark has completely disappeared! I was left with apparently no way to complete an item so I’m glad I found out about this which seems to work well. But it would’ve been nice to have a heads up, although the wording of your post makes it sound like you didn’t intend to get rid of the check mark?
I find it kind of annoying to have swipe actions because when I’m scrolling horizontally through a Kanban view it accidentally destroys everything.
Use two fingers to scroll Kanbans horizontally.
Hi Guys – Not related to the post – It would be fantastic to make this site – https://workflowy.com/s/ – Someone where we can upload / download Publicly shared, embedded templates etc.
nevermind- just found https://workflowy.com/s/
Question
Is their a way of searching for Publicly Shared workflowies?
How do I put notes associated with items as I have done for years now from my cell phone? The icon for that seems to disappeared.
Will we ever or maybe there’s already a way be able to link an item on WorkFlowy to the document or work product on our computer that it should be associated with?
Thanks for any answers you have
Hi Nancy, as there are several new buttons above the keyboard, you might have to scroll horizontally to get to the notes button.
As for linking to local files, it’s definitely a request we’re aware of but I don’t have a concrete answer for you right now, unfortunately.
Great! Thanks 🙂
It was really annoying to search for option to complete which was not visible and required moving through item menu first to show it.
Would there be an easier path to uncompleted? At present I have to left swipe then go the bullets menu. Wasn’t the tick previously available in the main screen?
Hi Daniel, you can simply swipe right again to un-complete.
How about to complete task on pc version. After update, i dont find the complete option when i mouse over the dot
Can the shortcuts be turned off completely? Mobile editing is a bit twitchy already. Would be a great UX upgrade (and presumably simple to implement)..
It doesn’t work well with boards, though. When I try to scroll a board left or right I usually end up swiping an item instead. When I swipe an item left it just disappears, no bullet menu appears. Sometimes the board will scroll and the item will swipe simultaneously. Workflowy 3.5.116, Android 11, OnePlus 6T.
To scroll the boards you have to use two fingers.
Thank you! You’re amazing.
👍👍I use WorkFlowy for different lists, but the one I use daily, even hourly, is the standing list of what we buy at the grocery store. I constantly mark items complete or not and swiping is very helpful.
It’s good to review the basics. Thank you for this! I knew this one, but I bet there are other tips and tricks that I don’t yet know about.
OK… so far it’s 50/50…
I love it. I remember the bad old days of the app. I purposely didn’t use it for things like grocery shopping, because there wasn’t a fast way to mark things complete. Boy, was I glad to see swiping.
Since I’ve never used WorkFlowy as a task list, the swipe to complete is pretty useless. Too often I swipe to complete a bullet by accident, so it’s more of an annoyance.
I agree – I got really worried when I saw that swiping right deletes an item, because too many important notes can be accidentally lost if the screen fails to lock or my attention gets distracted for a minute while holding the phone with Workflowy open.
Backups barely help because it may take some time before I’ll notice that items have gone missing, and it will be too late to reconcile the changes since.
Can I disable this feature somehow, please, to keep my notes safe?’
Hi RT, completing items doesn’t delete them. You might have the “Show completed” option toggled off so they auto-hide if you complete them, but are not deleted and you can show them by toggling that option on. Hope that gives you some peace of mind.
Getting to the notes button is a royal pain now. I’d gladly trade the markups for that back.
👍
