We are thrilled to announce several long-awaited and highly-requested mobile features.
The improvements for both iOS and Android include:
- A left swipe on any bullet now brings up a “Share” option.
- You can now Share a bullet with specific people by email or by pasting a link. The web and Desktop versions have had this functionality for some time and now mobile does too! https://blog.workflowy.com/2018/11/29/use-sharing-to-collaborate-with-workflowy/
- Export on Mobile
- In the Share dialog you can also “Share content” which is a way to export your lists on mobile.
- Clicking this option will bring up a mobile dialog that allows you to copy your list to the clipboard. It also gives you the traditional mobile options to send that content to other apps on your phone. At last!
- Duplicate on Mobile
- A left swipe on any bullet now brings up “Duplicate” as an option.
- A replica of your list will be created with “#copy” added to it. This is the same functionality that currently exists on web and Desktop.
- No more accidental deletions
- You no longer run the risk of unintentionally deleting your content with a left swipe. Now “Delete” is an option in the left swipe menu and therefore less easy to trigger by accident.
- Better detection for scroll vs swipe
- You should no longer have as many instances of the swipe menus appearing when you meant to scroll and vice versa.
We hope you enjoy these new mobile features. Auto-completing hashtags is next up on the mobile list.
(Yes, Dates and Reminders are also in progress, we appreciate your patience.)
PS – If this pushes your opinion of the WorkFlowy mobile apps into 5-star territory we would greatly appreciate if you could leave us a review in the app or play store.
This design is wicked! You most certainly know how to keep
a reader entertained. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!)
Wonderful job. I really enjoyed what you had to say,
and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!
It’d be great if the new mobile Share function had the option to generate the normal URL to a bullet point the list owner can generate on the browser version.
I blog frequently and I seriously appreciate your content.
This great article has really peaked my interest.
I am going to bookmark your blog and keep checking for new
details about once a week. I opted in for your Feed too.
Everything is very open with a clear clarification of the challenges.
It was really informative. Your site is very helpful.
Many thanks for sharing!
What I’d really like is better share to functionality, so it’s easier to share links and stuff into WF. Something like a native mobile version of the Workflowy Clipper extension in Chrome.
Please add move as a feature as well
I like the swipe left for multiple options improvement. Good design. I did notice last night though that the swipe right for complete requires the same long swipe to check. It takes about twice as long to strike through the text. I often check or uncheck many series of bullets, one right after another. This makes it a little clunkier. Is there a reason the swipe right needs this same long swipe? Is it simply to avoid accidental engagement when scrolling down?
I should have been more precise in my description. In revisiting the swipe, it looks like it the required “swipe right” distance is not as great as I once thought. But it still does require some lag time as the entire bullet travels right, turns green, then strikes or unstrikes the bullet. If I swipe a series of bullets one right after another, which I do often, it will show a green bar, but it doesn’t affect the status of the bullet.
Very nice new features–the sharing and “safer” deletion are much appreciated. Consider me another vote for reminders/due dates and in particular, SIRI addition of new items to a default list section. I’m DYING to dump IOS reminders and the quick ability to add reminders by voice with due dates is the only reason I keep it.
Me tooooo
Reminders!
How soon until those reminders!?
Great work. Thank you!
Great feature!!!
But when I tried sharing it didn’t work with national characters (åäöÅÄÖ) on my iPhone.
Thanks, we’ll look into fixing this!
Actually can you write to us at help@workflowy.com so we can troubleshoot this directly with you? We had an iOS 12.2 bug that we fixed earlier which might be the cause and not the characters.
This is now fixed! 🙂
No more accidental deletions
You no longer run the risk of unintentionally deleting your content with a left swipe. Now “Delete” is an option in the left swipe menu and therefore less easy to trigger by accident.
Better detection for scroll vs swipe
You should no longer have as many instances of the swipe menus appearing when you meant to scroll and vice versa.
About these points above, how about if you add a simple and efficient Padlock to the Mobile interface, to simply lock/unlock the whole editing? It could represent a much better way to avoid and prevent accidental deletions and/or accidental item moves through scroll. Most of the time, I just want / need to READ info from WF. And it already happened to me quite a few times when I’m scrolling, a stupid line follows my finger and wants to be placed elsewhere, creating a mess that requires me to Undo it right away. Depending on the size of some lists, there are some lags and this causes the scrolling to be laggy too.
Do you want me to create a Feature Request, or can you create it?
Thank you!
It’s an excellent idea. We’ll add your vote to our lists.
Great job team. Loving this feature!
Awesome! Maybe a less arduous way to move a list into another. I am thankful for what was done!
Or a way to multi select items in mobile app
@Marissa, I second this. First off, thank you team at Workflowy for this awesome update. The two new functions you’ve added – share and duplicate – are things I will use through my day. The next major feature I crave is a move function. It is arduous to move nodes, and this is something I need to do a lot, so having a move option on both mobile and desktop would be a huge improvement. Thanks for considering and great work!
You know that you can move single bullets already on mobile, right? It’s true, we haven’t made a multi-node way to drag-and-drop yet. Still on the lists.
When is due dates and notifications coming?
Thanks for your patience, Bra!
Great! Awesome! Thanks a lot!
This is awesome! Are there any plans to make it possible to share data *into* Workflowy?
Thanks.
@glennpj what do you mean “share data *into* WorkFlowy? Can you give me a use case for what you mean? There is a @Jay Rawlings extension called “clip to workflowy” in Chrome that might accomplish what you are looking for.
Sweet work guys thanks. Please tell me keyboard shortcuts are next on the list because many of us use Workflowy on an iPad. Thanks.
External keyboard shortcut issues are still blocked by this Apple bug! Sorry! https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149054 It’s out of our control to fix.
